CHILDREN'S LITURGY OF THE WORD
(Sunday 9:00 am mass ) Children's Liturgy of the word allows elementary-age children the opportunity to experience the Sunday readings at a level more easily understood. By experiencing the Liturgy of the Word in this manner they will more readily be able to make those readings their own and, therefore, benefit more from participation in the Eucharistic Celebration. In order to accomplish this goal, children are dismissed from the larger assembly by the celebrant after the opening prayer. They proceed to their designated area where a Presenter proclaims the readings, responsorial psalm and Gospel acclamation are sung. The Presenter uses questions, role-playing, guided meditations, etc. as a means of involving the children in active participation. Children pray the Creed and offer their prayers of petition. The children are then called back to the Church and welcomed back with the Presentation of the Gifts.
The mission of this ministry is to be the center of the circle that will surround our parishioners and family members during their time of loss and grief. The smallest gift of time will ripple outward and forever affect the memory and feeling of support the family members can have.
There are so many areas that each of us can make a difference to parishioners in their lonely and grieving times..… a written card reminding the parishioner that they are remembered and cared for; or a warm meal waiting for them when there is no energy left to cook; or help in getting a family member to/from the airport; or companionship during the funeral planning process; or help with and during the funeral mass.

The movement of Cursillo in Christianity is a powerful instrument of renewal in the church. Its aim is to concentrate closely on the person and teachings of Jesus Christ. The Cursillo gives those who attend it a living understanding of basic Christian truths and the desire to serve Christ. What's more, it provides a means to continue the Christian formation which is just begun in the three-day exercises. The Cursillo movement community spirit is continued after the three days through the "ultreys" or reunions of the community, which are available on a regular basis. Reunions of smaller groups of friends are also available.

The word Kairos means "A short course in Christianity". Kairos prison ministry began in the late 70's in Florida. It has proven to be very successful in bringing the word of God to a large number of prison inmates. Retreats are held several times a year in state and federal prisons. The retreat is designed to provide an atmosphere for sharing, praying and learning about God. The retreat is modeled after a Cursillo retreat in which an individual examines his or her relationship with God. The format is adapted to accommodate the very intense and emotional prison environment. The individual who facilitates the Kairos retreats must have made a Cursillo and facilitated a retreat. Inmates who participate in a retreat are invited to participate in a monthly group reunion. Our parish has several retreat facilitators who team up with other teams from the entire Bay Area.
