Sacristans
These women and men prepare all that is needed to celebrate
the Eucharist. They work behind the scenes readying bread
and wine, candles and water so that the action of the liturgy
flows smoothly. Their work models for us how to prepare for
liturgy. The joys and concerns, the moments of energy, the
details – all this is part of the ministry of preparing the action of
the church.
Sacristans serve at the mass of their choosing. Setting up the
vessels and sacramentals needed for the celebration; they keep
the sacristy clean and running smoothly and are present to help
with any emergencies during the liturgy.
