Minutes of the Saint Raymond Pastoral Council Monthly Meeting

Meeting convened at: 7:10 pm
Opening Prayer
Approval of Minutes from June Meeting with corrections
Guests: Janet Cooke and Mary Fair – Representatives from the Diocesan Pastoral Council from Region I
(Fremont, Livermore, Pleasant Hill, Christ the King in Walnut Creek, Danville, San Ramon, Pleasanton and
Dublin)
They talked with us about the future plans for the Pastoral Councils in the Diocese (see below) and were
able to answer many of the questions we had. The newer members were also able to get a better grasp on
the purpose and function of the Council. They gave us contact emails for themselves
Workshop for new Council members on Sept 27 will be held in Santa Maria Hall, Orinda from 9am-12noon.
Voting on New Council Duties
Mark Bales was elected Chairman; Christian Favor was elected Vice Chairman, and Pat Kohnen was
elected Secretary.
Pastor’s Report
·
Ministry Fair --September 13 and 14.
Council discussed feedback from parishioners from Ministry Fair on Master Plan proposed
building.
·
Prison Ministry
Coalition of Churches to minister to the Federal and County (Santa Rita) Prisons – pastors to say
o
Mass and hear Reconciliation
Volunteers need to be coordinated from the Deanery parishes – 12 volunteer Lay people would
o
be needed
·
Master Plan Update
Meeting on June 17th not well attended. New meeting on Sept 9 at 7pm in Kid’s Club. Need for
o
professional help in fundraising was discussed.
·
Just Faith Program –
kicked off well. We wish them further success as they strive to address
various social ills.
·
Therese Dennis is the new Minister of Music, chosen from 11 candidates. The three finalists each
presented a new music piece taught to the choir. We congratulate the winner and wish her all the
best in a successful ministry.
·
Water Pipes –paving is still being done, pipes have been proofed, the parking lot should return to
normal soon.
·
Maintenance—One of the screens is still in need of work and the acoustics in the Church need to
be improved.
·
Christ of Light Cathedral—many events are scheduled to celebrate our new Cathedral
Procession on Sept 14th to transfer holy water and holy oils to the new Cathedral from all of the
o
parishes in the Diocese.
Dedication will be on Sept 25th
o
Possible St Raymond group trip to see Cathedral later this year
o
Cathedral will have a free health clinic with supplies donated by Kaiser-Permanente and free
o
help for legal issues will also be available.

Fr Raymond Zielezienski will be the new pastor at St Joan of Arc.
·
Possible joint programs in Deanery
– (Livermore, CCOP, St Joan)
We are hopeful that this will be an occasion for renewal of the close ties we have with our
o
neighboring parishes.
Diocesan Pastoral Plan 2008
Faith and Service to the World is the Theme for the vision of the Diocese as we move into the
o
future.
“To know Christ better and to make Him better known” is part of the Mission Statement that the
o
Diocese will now be using.
Diocesan Council Representatives are “stewards” of the plan
o
All plans will be set into action on the parish level. Each parish is to determine their own
§
emphasis and mission statement.
Committee was formed for Spiritual Plan for our parish.
