Meeting:
The minutes were approved as corrected. M, Kevan Blanco S,
Matt Troiano
Unfinished Business:
The Spiritual Plan: Will wait to incorporate StrengthsFinder information.
PC Bylaws: Need to schedule a meeting.
Old Business:
Pictures for Website: Bob Reguilon brought his camera and took new pictures of council members for the
Parish web site.
Topics for Current Meeting:
Strengths and Stewardship:
Janet Egler reported on the Stewardship workshop that she attended at St.
Joachim’s. A representative from the St. Raymond Finance Committee also attended. She shared the message of
Time, Talent & Treasures –
people should be encouraged to not only give from their excess. Our Parish may
want to consider a discernment process to form a Stewardship Committee.
Such a decision could be a potential
outcome of a day long Parish workshop. Diana Bitz and Janet would be willing to meet with heads of other
Parish committees and ministries to share information about the StrengthsFinder process. There is a relation
between Stewardship and the StrenghtsFinder process.
We may want to plan a day long workshop
with Parish
committees and ministries to decide next steps to move forward with the StrengthsFinder process within our
Parish.
The Discernment Process for New Pastoral Council Members: Bob Reguilon reminded the Council that is
time to plan because the selection of two new members will take place in June.
The discernment meeting with
the candidates will take place in May. The Pastoral Council does not usually meet in July and August. The two
new members will be seated in September, 2009. Bob Reguilon and Kevan Blanco will be leaving the Council.
Should we have Council candidates take the StrengthsFinder Assessment as part of  the discernment process to
select new Council members?
M, Kevan Blanco
S, Bob
Reguilon,  that the StrengthsFinder Assessment will be part of the discernment
process. No objections. It will be part of the process. Janet Egler will order Living Your Strengths books.
We need to put something in the bulletin as soon as possible. We need a flyer to hand out, the Pastoral Council
web site updated and the application needs to be modified and handed out and put on the web site. The people
who are selected for the two available seats should
reflect the diversity of our Parish community. We need to
communicate a clear definition of purpose for the Pastoral Council. Matt Troiano will draft some material, Mark
& Janet
will edit (email to entire Council for review). Bob Reguilon will give the bulletin announcement to
Sandi Drake.
The materials should include a reference to the StrengthsFinder Assessment.
We need to consider
a variety of ways to recruit potential candidates. Infomertial after announcements at Mass? Bob Regulion needs
to have the bulletin announcement by Wednesday, March 11. Some of the recruitment materials should be in
languages other than English --  Spanish, Tagalog?
Gymnasium:
Kevan
Blanco shared research and thoughts about the Gymnasium Project.
He would like to use
some of his talents,
Restorative & Strategic, to move the Project forward.
Some ideas include --
Give the Gym a
name?
What does Christian Favor think from the youth perspective? Reach out to CYO?
Staff professionally as
a self sufficient project?
This could be the time to get good value on a bid proposal.
Is it dead? Father Bob
stated it may have gone into hibernation, but is not dead.
Could be a revenue generator. It is more than a gym.
Involve Professional athletes? The rule is now that before a project can break ground in the Diocese 100% must
be pledged. There are professional fundraisers to help assess ability to raise money. Need to write grants –
Grant Writer.
We also need a Development Director and Project Director.
One person or several? Put footprint
on the property?  There are more people within our Parish who can be engaged. Kevan is interested in being a
StrengthsFinder
coach. As part of coaching he could identify people to engage in the Gymnasium Project. Valet
parking service to generate revenue?  How should we tell the story to the parish?
A decision was made to  keep
the Gymnasium Project on the Pastoral Council agenda each time, in order to keep it moving forward.
Pastoral Report:
Parking Lot:
The City asked permission to use the St. Raymond parking lot for the grand opening of Shannon
Center on February 28. Permission was granted. We will need to be aware of the best way to cooperate in the
future.
Staff and StrengthsFinder: At the last staff meeting next steps were discussed.
Consider a Day for the parish
ministries to figure out next steps. Growing an Engaged Church would be helpful.
Townhall Meeting Results: Much
has been accomplished. Many of the top needs have been met. We should
get the message out to the Parish that we listened and acted. The completion of the Gymnasium Project is one of
the final top identified needs to be met.
Website: The current web master will be retiring as soon as a new person has been identified.
Closing Prayer by
Kevan Blanco
For the next meeting Pat Kohnen
will do the opening prayer and Janet Egler
will do the closing prayer.
Meeting adjourned at
9:25 pm.
