Minutes of the St Raymond Pastoral Council Meeting

Unfinished Business:

PC Bylaws: Need to schedule a meeting.

Old Business:

Pictures for Website: Pictures of pastoral council members need to be posted on the Web site.

Topics for Current Meeting:

Holy Thursday Request: Will Pastoral Council members participate as the first group to have their feet

washed by Father Bob and then be the first people to wash feet at the eight stations? Yes. Mark Bales will

contact Bob Reguilon.

The Discernment Process for New Pastoral Council Members: It was agreed that the timeline needs to be

extended. One or more special Pastoral Council Meetings may need to be scheduled.

Gymnasium:

Kevan and Father Bob reporting. What should the project be called? Something more than a

gym. Perhaps a Health and Wellness Center?

Beyond youth. Would need a steering committee or board. Kevan

would like to start working on a presentation. Need to shape the message. “Think where the puck needs to be,

not where it is.” Use technology and social networking such as Linked In and Facebook.

Kevan met with

Catholic Charities and got some leads for foundations to contact for funding. Looking for a match of funds.

Looked at successful building projects. Manage the project  like it is already in place. What are the hours? Who

will run it? Who can participate? Adult league? Generate revenue? Fundraising with a Golf tournament?

Prepare for criticism. How will the project add value now and in the future?  Our kids deserve this.

The project

needs to have a spiritual element.

It could provide space for seminars.

The project should embody Christian

values and

support the mission of the parish. Need to work again on the tri-fold for the parish mission. Check

back with the constituents. What are the original needs collected from the parishioners?

Father Bob and Kevan

could meet with contractor and generate ideas for steering committee. BuildSaintRaymond website. Steering

committee should include a staff representative and a pastoral council representative. Look for baseline data.

Our St Raymond Mission Statement should be an anchor for the project. Preview a presentation for the Parish

with the pastoral council.

Greeting: Janet reported that people were surprised but positive when she and Bob greeted people before Mass.

She suggested that the Pastoral Council pick a weekend and be at every Mass. May 16 & 17? Janet volunteered

to organize the schedule for greeting.

Pastoral Report:

Growing an Engaged Church: Fr Bob gave

books to council members. Deborah Gunn is sponsoring a

coaches’ class. Janet Egler and Kevan Blanco and two others will attend on

May 19 & 20.

New Bishop:

The appointment

of

Salvatore Joseph Cordileone

by Pope Benedict as fourth Bishop of Oakland

was made public on March 23 at the Cathedral of Christ the Light. He will be installed at noon on May 5 at the

Cathedral.

Website: Need a new webmaster.

Parking Issue:

The Teen Job Fair used the St Raymond lot for extra parking. We need parking for parishioners

when Parish events are going on. What should the policy be? Sometimes St Raymond parishioners use the

Shannon Center lot for parking. Fr Bob will talk to legal department and the City, but the Parish wants to be a

good citizen.

Auction: Why were more parishioners not there?

The event may need to be marketed more to the entire Parish.

There is some perception that it is a school event.

Space for Meetings and Events: There needs to be respect and flexibility among organizations for use of space

and space should be left in good order at the end of a meeting or event. There is room for improvement.

Video Projectors:

New video projectors have been donated by a generous family for the Church. Mark Bales is

on the video committee.

Audio in the Church:

This problem is being worked on.
