Approval of Minutes from April 2
Meeting:
The minutes were approved as presented. M, Connie Kersten S,
Bob Reguilon
Unfinished Business:
PC Bylaws: Need to schedule a meeting.
Mission Statement and three fold brochure: Should
we consider
using the same statement as the Diocese?
Use some ideas for the brochure from St Anne’s, such as “If you join St. Raymond’s what do you get?”. Mark
will meet with Janet and present next steps to the Pastoral Council.
Gymnasium:
Kevan and Father Bob reported that they are proceeding with setting up contact meetings.
Pictures for Website: Pictures of pastoral council members need to be posted on the Web site.
Old Business:
Greeting Weekend: We need two or three council members at each Mass; one or two at the front doors and one
at the side door. Janet took names of volunteers for the May 16, 17 weekend. She will email the schedule to the
Pastoral Council members. Diana Bitz will put an announcement in the bulletin that the Pastoral council will be
greeting people at all Masses on the May 16, 17 weekend.
Topics for Current Meeting:
StrengthsFinder Team Blending: Diana Bitz has had the first coaching session with all Pastoral Council
members.
As part of the team blending process she led the council through two exercises. The first exercise was
a Focus on You exercise for which each person answered five questions about themselves and then shared the
information with the group
(What name do you prefer, what you get paid to do, positive things you enjoy most,
two successes, and expectations). The next exercise was a discussion of the Pastoral Council Signature Themes
and Focus Areas.
The top five, of a possible 34, themes were listed for each member. Themes can be grouped
into Striving, Thinking, Impacting and Relating. The top ranked theme grouping for the council is Thinking,
how we create ideas. Diana noted which types of themes would most complement the top themes of each
council member. There are some themes that are currently missing from the council members. This could be a
consideration in selecting the two new council members. At the next council meeting Diana will present a brief
update for
Mark,
who was unable to attend this meeting. Diana will finish up with another exercise that looks at
what’s missing in the group and how we can best work together using the top themes of each person on the
council.
Donation to Our Lady Queen of Martyrs: Bob Reguilon presented letters and report cards in response to St.
Raymond sending $10,000 for two eighth grade students’ tuition so they could attend Our Lady Queen of
Martyrs school in New York City.
The Discernment Process for New Pastoral Council Members: We have received the first application for a
position on the Pastoral Council from Kathy Morte. Diana Bitz will check to make sure an announcement
continues to run in the Sunday bulletin about the discernment process. The candidates will attend a meeting in
September with the current Pastoral Council. Part of the discernment process will be for each candidate to take
the StrengthsFinder survey.
Environment: Connie reported on concerns she heard from a parishioner about lights, water use, and hot water
temperature possibly set too high in the kitchen. Connie will report back that these concerns are being
addressed. Our kitchen must meet commercial kitchen standards and certain health codes that could influence
something like water temperature.
Pastoral Report:
Website:
Still looking for a new webmaster.
Social Justice Committee: They have been working on moving St Raymond parish toward a greener footprint.
Installation of new Bishop:
Salvatore Joseph Cordileone was installed as the new bishop of the Oakland
Diocese on May 5 at the Cathedral of Christ the Light
Reverse Job Fair on Palm Sunday: It provided recognition for people seeking employment. The idea got
picked up nationally on the news. Gene Nokes heads an ongoing JobLink Ministry at St. Raymond that meets
on Monday evenings in Moran Hall.
Painting in Church and Moran Hall: Estimates are being made and the painting should be done in the near
future.
Audio in the Church: Work continues to meet the need to improve audio in the Church.
Calendaring Meeting: It will be held on May 14. Space needs for our Parish are increasing; so some outside
groups may not be able to use space at St. Raymond next year.
First Communion: It went very well
this year.
Raising Awareness for the StrengthsFinder Process: Diana Bitz will start to include a weekly box on the
StrengthsFinder themes in the Sunday bulletin. A plan is in place to meet with Heads of ministries. Diana is
working with Janet Egler. A Parish meeting on the topic may be planned. How to pay for it? There is an
expense for the Living Your Strengths books and also for the training of coaches. Consider a joint meeting of
the Financial and Pastoral Councils.
Financial Council: The
Parish Financial Report will be presented at the masses on the May 16,
17 weekend.
The Financial Council will have tables to sign people up for EFT giving.
St. Raymond School: The population has been declining because of the current economic situation.
The
estimated population for next year is 285 students, down from 305 at the beginning of the current school year.
.
Extra Pastoral Council Meeting: Plan to Meet on August
6. We will not meet in July.
Closing Prayer by
Matt Troiano.
For the next meeting Matt Troiano
will do the opening prayer and Bob Reguilon
will do the closing prayer.
Meeting adjourned
