Prospective Parent Information

It is the goal of St. Raymond School to educate children of Catholic families. Registration means that the family is willing to comply with the programs and policies of the school and actively participate in the activities which support the school in its programs and philosophy. Catholic schools are a primary means of Catholic education. The Catholic school is to assist Catholic families in the formation and education of their children in the Catholic faith, Gospel values, and traditions.

Important Dates To Remember

  • January 30 - February 4, 2005 - Catholic Schools Week
    Catholic Schools Week is traditionally the start of the application process. During this time you are invited to the school open house on Januray 31st from 9am to 10:15am where you can pick up an application, meet the faculty and visit the classrooms.

  • Availability of Admission Applications
    Applications for admission are available on Sunday, January 30th, 2005 at the beginning of Catholic Schools week or you can pick one up in the office after this date. If you are from out of the area, you can ask to have one mailed by calling the office at 925-365-0023. Applications should be returned as soon as possible.

  • Student Testing
    Testing for applicants to grades 1-8, March 4th, 2005 - (Kindergarten readiness screening will begin in the spring).

  • Letters of Acceptance
    Acceptance letters will be mailed no later then the second week of April. You will either receive a letter of acceptance or a letter stating your child has been placed on the waiting list.

Application Process

Students will be tested, in grades 1-8, for readiness before acceptance into St. Raymond Catholic School. The application form is to be filled out completely. A copy of the state birth certificate is required. A Baptismal certificate will also be required for all baptized Catholic students. A child is considered Catholic if he/she is baptized in the Catholic faith.

Entrance Requirements

Admission priority will be given in the following order:

GROUP 1: Qualified Catholic Candidates

  • Sibling of students currently enrolled in St. Raymond School
  • Parents are registered in St. Raymond Parish
  • Parents demonstrate active participation at St. Raymond Church.

NOTE: Families are expected to maintain active participation in the life of the parish to be considered active parishoners. A change in active participation during a family's enrollment at St. Raymond can chnage the Priority of Acceptance group classification.

GROUP 2: Qualified Catholic Candidates...

  • Parents are registered in St. Raymond Parish.
  • Parents demonstrate active participation at St. Raymond Church.

GROUP 3: Qualified Catholic Candidates...

  • Sibling of student currently enrolled in St. Raymond School.
  • Parents can demonstrate registration in their Catholic Parish.
  • Parents can demonstrate active participation in their Catholic Parish.

GROUP 4: Qualified Catholic Candidates...

  • Students are currently enrolled in another Catholic School.
  • Parents are registered and are new to St. Raymond Parish (<1 year)
  • Parents can demonstrate registration in their former Catholic Parish.
  • Parents can demonstrate active participation at St. Raymond Church during their recent registration.
  • Parents can demonstrate active participation at their former Catholic Church.

GROUP 5: Qualified Catholic Candidates...

  • Parents are registered and are new to St. Raymond Parish (1 year or less)
  • Parents can demonstrate registration in former Catholic Parish.
  • Parents can demonstrate active participation at St. Raymond Church during their recent registration.
  • Parents can demonstrate active participation at their former Catholic Church.

GROUP 6: Qualified Candidates...

  • Those who do not meet the above criteria.

Parishioners must present their Sunday collection envelope as verification from St. Raymond as proof of their registration as well as active participation.

Catholic parishioners from parishes other than St. Raymond must present a letter of verification from pastor indicating participation, and are asked to include a Sunday collection envelope indicating activity in another parish.

Active Parish Participation

Active participation is defined as:

  • Weekly Mass Attendance
  • Provide to the Sacrificial Giving Program at their registered church (using Sunday collection envelope and contributing at least $500.00 to St. Raymond Church over the course of a school year, May to April)

Minimum Age

To be admitted into kindergarten a child must be four (4) years and nine (9) months of age on or before September 1st of the current school year. By State regulation, the school may not have children younger than this without obtaining licensing for pre-school. To be admitted into the first grade a child must be five (5) years and nine (9) months on or before September 1st of the current school year. Where a child has been legally enrolled in another school s/he may be admitted to the school and placed in a lower grade as age appropriate at the discretion of the admitting school.

Records at Entrance

Students entering school for the first time are required to bring a birth record, a baptismal record (if applicable), and a record of state required immunizations.

Probationary Policy

All students newly enrolled at St. Raymond will be placed on academic and social probation for their first year of attendance. Failure to meet the school's academic and behavioral standards can result in dismissal.

Transfer Student Process and Requirements

Application process is the same as above in addition, all financial obligations to previous school must be current.

Special Needs

Admission of transfer students with special needs will be dependent upon the school program's ability to meet these needs.

Responsibilities of Parents

If your child(ren) is accepted into St. Raymond School, it is expected that the parent will support the policies and procedures of the school. Listed below are some of the responsibilities for parents of a St. Raymond Student. For more complete information on policies and procedures please review the Parent-Family Handbook [PDF format].

Parents have the primary responsibility for the education of their children. The school, the church, and the civic community support, enhance, facilitate and complement this role. Any successful educational program depends upon the cooperation and involvement of the parents with the school. Agreement to enroll your child/children in St. Raymond Catholic School carries certain parental responsibilities.
It is expected that parents will:

  1. Be active in the faith development of their child(ren) and worship at Mass on weekends and Holy Days.
  2. Contribute to the support of the parish by regular usage of the church envelopes.
  3. Instill in each child positive values and attitudes.
  4. Be familiar with and support school and class regulations and policies.
  5. Support the educational programs offered at St. Raymond Catholic School by careful and conscientious supervision of school assignments.
  6. Support the standard of conduct recommended by St. Raymond Catholic School at all times.
  7. Attend parent/teacher conferences and carry out teacher recommendations made at conferences.
  8. Fulfill all contractual obligations, including the payment of tuition and fees on time.
  9. Support school and parish related functions.
  10. Provide a willingness to volunteer their service to help build a strong school community by giving of themselves - 30 hrs for two-parent households or 15 hrs for single parents.
  11. Attend Parent Meetings and other meetings that have to do with the student's educational or religious growth. At least one parent is expected to attend each meeting.
  12. Take an active part in all school fund raising activities.
  13. Be responsible for all damage and loss of school property caused by the student.
  14. Follow the approved chain of command whenever a problem arises in the classroom. Discuss the matter with the teacher, next the principal, then the pastor, and finally the superintendent.
  15. Utilize the School Board to direct suggestions and recommendations which affect the school community.
